Ottoway Engineering Pty Ltd deems Environmental Management to be a critical issue and as such has formulated a specific Environmental Policy Statement and a Management Plan which forms an integral part of our site work procedures.
The Manual and Procedures are available at our Ottoway premises for inspection. We acknowledge that the very nature of the projects we undertake as well as the methods, the plant and the equipment used to complete those works have the potential to impact adversely on our environment. Therefore, our approach to Environmental Management is similar to that taken for Safety Management and is pro-active rather than reaction driven.
As a result of this approach, Ottoway Engineering has an excellent environmental record and is committed to mainaining that record. To this end we undertake, as required by the contract, to provide a project specific environmental managment plan for the client to approve prior to commencement of the work. The plan will be designed to reflect the results of a pre-start investigation study and will clearly describe the associated hazards/risks as well as the methods and equipment needed to eliminate or minimise the associated risk.
Ottoway Engineering accepts the following environmental ideals:
-
- protect existing flora and fauna as much as possible
- prevent pollution to the atmosphere, ground, catchments and waterways
- minimise the erosion effects of our plant and equipment
- minimise and dispose of all waste in an environmentally responsible manner
- repair damaged road surfacing and/or easements
- reinstate fencing if it was removed in the course of our work
- removal of any contaminated topsoil and replacement
- carry out any re-seeding as may be required.
Prior to commencement of any combined project where Ottoway Engineering Pty Ltd is the prime contractor, we assume overall responsibility for subcontractor performance. Our major subcontractors will, as a minimum, comply with the environmental management plan and procedures established for the project ensuring conformance with all relevant legislation, standards and specifications.
